Three year training  program in Self-Psychology

and the Study of Subjectivity


The three-year training program for self-psychology studies, which was founded in 2010, is designed to provide a systematic and thorough introduction of the theoretical and clinical elements of psychoanalytic self- psychology and its unique way of understanding the human psyche. The study of the Kohutian philosophy and the broad assimilation of its practical principles, constitute an opportunity to cultivate a human presence with significant implications both in the therapeutic field and in the individual's life.
The program is intended for mental health professionals with at least 3 years of experience in psychotherapy:
*Clinical Psychologists – Licensed psychologists and interns.
*Psychiatrists – Licensed psychiatrist and interns.
*Social Workers with a master's degree in mental health
*Developmental, Educational, Rehabilitative and Medical Psychologists, Clinical Criminologists and Expressive Therapists with a master's degree in mental health.
The program is recognized as a training program in psychotherapy by  The Israeli Association for Psychotherapy
The Program includes theoretical seminars, supervision seminars, clinical seminars and interdisciplinary workshops.
  1. THEORETICAL  SEMINARS:
Two theoretical seminars will be held each semester – four each year.
The first year will be devoted to instilling concepts and fundamentals of psychoanalytic thinking and to the consolidation of psychoanalytic observation, with an initial focusing on self psychology.
The second year will focus on intensive study of Kohut's writings and the main concepts of the theory.
The third year will be dedicated to Kohut's theory in contextual, comparative and contemporary thinking.
 
  1. SUPERVISION  SEMINARS
Weekly supervision seminars in small groups (3 or 4 students per group)
  1. Weekly individual supervision – 120 hrs.
 
  1. CLINICAL SEMINARS
Monthly clinical seminars will be held for all the students with the participation of the teachers and the supervisors of the program.  Moderators: Ms. Etty Dotan and Mr. Raanan Kulka
 
  1. INTERDISCIPLINARY WORKSHOPS
A full assembly workshop will be held each semester for a whole day, on a special topic creating a dialogue between the psychoanalytic world and other disciplines. Members of the program's staff and guest supervisors will officiate. The students will take an active part in planning and implementation of the workshops.
 
  1. Thesis 
At the end of the three year training program each student is expected to write a clinical or theoretical thesis. The paper should include a clinical presentation or clinical vignettes with reference to theoretical thinking.

The evolution and development of psychoanalytic thinking before the emergence of self psychology – Dr. Or Gye
Second semester
Clinical supervision
Basic concepts in self psychology – Ms. Sary Ilan
Empathy and selfobject transferences in treatment of children and adults – Theoretical and clinical aspects – Ms. Ruth Gat-Dubrov,  Ms. Tali Hochshtater

SECOND YEAR
First semester
Clinical  supervision.
Self psychology and the humanities – Dr. Asher Epshtein
Empathy   –  on the concept of selfobject – Ms. Tamar Zeidmann
Second semester
Clinical supervision.
The development of the self and the creation of selfhood (will be partly based on Kohut's book "The restoration of the self") – Ms. Claudia Kogan
The broken self and it's mending (will be partly based on Kohut's book "How does analysis cure") – Ms. Amina Teiber
 
THIRD YEAR
First semester

The future of self psychology – Ms. Daphna Huminer
Winnicott and Kohut – Ms. Avramit Brodsky
Second semester
Clinical supervision.
The development of psychoanalytic thinking with the Emergence of self psychology – Mr. Raanan Kulka
Kohut's successors – Ms. Andrea Shalom-Korenhauzer
  
This year, 26 students from the fourth graduating class are completing their studies, and 20 students begin their studies in the program.
In the course of theoretical learning and clinical experience, the students experience and crystalize their unique and subjective way as therapists. They are encouraged to undertake the moral, ethical and professional responsibility toward others. This road evolves in the presence of devoted guides:  teachers, group and individual supervisors, interdisciplinary seminar facilitators and the steering committee accompanying the program.
